What Education Is...
I believe that education is a process which prepares
individuals' for life as adults. Without an education people would not be able to function correctly in the modern world. Education is a great thing because people learn everyday without even knowing it and anyone can be a teacher in one way or another. When you go to school it is more like formal learning because that is the whole reason you are there is to learn, but you can also learn things just from everyday life which is more of an informal type of learning. Education is something that never stops i still learn something new every day of my life. We all know that having an education is important because it allows a student to become a functioning part of
society but it also
important because education is what makes us who we are. As we learn we identify with things which help us realize what we like or
don't like also how we feel about a situation or idea. By being educated it makes us developed, rounded people. The more we learn about the world around us the more we learn about
ourselves and knowing who we are is just as important as having an education.
What the School Is...
A school is a well
developed and organized place for learning. The school is where formal education starts so it needs to be interesting to the students and a place where they feel safe and comfortable. All too often student label school as being boring and a waste of time. I believe that whole view needs to be switched around; it seems to me that schools, teachers and principals have become so worried about tests and grades that they have forgotten how to make school actually interesting and fun. I believe that yes it is very important for the students to get good grades and do well on tests but i think there are different approaches that can be used to teach so that the students are actually enjoying themselves. The
school needs to be a place where students want to go because it is a place where they learn while having fun. I believe as a teacher your goal should be to have every single one of your students go home after school each day and be excited to talk about something with their family that they learned or did in class that day.
The Subject Matter of Education...
The
subject matter should be a wide range from math to nature to society. Students need to learn things that will prepare them for the future which include the following:
- Values, morals and ethics
- Advanced math, writing, reading and science skills
- How to think logically and critically
- Everyday skills (cooking, cleaning, money management)
- Understanding of our world (basics, solar system)
- Technology skills
- Communication skills (manners, being respectful)
- Government and laws
- History of U.S. (past, present)
- Understanding of how important our environment is
- Art history (past, present)
- Human nature
The Nature of Method...
I believe that teachers have many jobs in a classroom; they need to be responsible for getting the information to the students while providing a fun and safe learning environment. I believe that building healthy relationships with students is one of the most important jobs a teacher can have because if a teacher does not have relationship with the students then it would be very difficult to reach that student and teach in a way he/she would understand. Also i believe it is the teacher's job to individually get to know each student so that the teacher knows what works for some students but not others. I believe that students learn by doing and experiencing things for themselves. I believe that teachers are there to guide students into discovering answers on their own not to stand in front of them and say, "This is how it is because i said so." Students need to understand that all they need is right in their heads and they just need the opportunities and experiences to use their brains and discover. I believe that it is also teacher's jobs to not only create relationships with the students but to also help students create healthy relationships with their peers. I believe that it is not only a teacher's job to teach students about math, science and English but to also teach them about self respect, courtesy, manners and open mindedness.
The School and Social Progress...
I believe that without schools and education there would be no structural, functioning society. I believe that social progress comes from those who have been educated in some way (formal, informal). I believe that education is very important so that social progress can continue to move forward. I believe that in order to keep a functioning society the individuals who make it up must continue to educate themselves and others. Lastly i believe that social progress is what pushes individuals to educate themselves and others more.
